Tazewell County Public Schools will launch the TCPS Attendance Assistant on November 4 in partnership with Edia Learning, giving families a convenient way to communicate with their child’s school about attendance.

The launch coincides with National Family Engagement Month and supports the division’s efforts to strengthen school-family partnerships and encourage regular attendance.

Families will receive timely text notifications when their child is absent and can reply directly to explain the absence. They can also submit photos of doctor’s notes, letters, and other documentation through the text conversation. No additional app is needed.

“We want attendance communication to be simple and helpful for families,” said Dr. Chad Brown, Supervisor of Truancy-Distance Learning. “This tool gives parents a convenient way to explain an absence, send documentation, and stay connected with their child’s school. It also helps our staff identify attendance concerns early and work with families to address barriers.”

The Attendance Assistant will support ongoing communication between families and school staff as TCPS works to reduce chronic absenteeism and keep students engaged in learning.

“Every day in school gives students opportunities to learn, build relationships, and grow,” said Dr. Chris Stacy, Superintendent of Schools. “By making communication easier, we are strengthening our partnership with families and working together to help students attend regularly and succeed."
