Eighty Tazewell County Career and Technical Center (TCCTC) students
competed in the SkillsUSA district-level trade competitions which were held on February 24,
2024, and hosted by TCCTC. Tazewell County students and Bland County students who attend
Tazewell County Career and Technical Center competed against students from Wythe, Smyth,
Carroll, Galax, Grayson, and Washington Counties as well as students attending Virginia High
School located in the city of Bristol, Virginia.

Maynard, and Ethan Craig; Total Fantasy Fashion Look, 1st place Kydalynn Brown and Jayla Farmer with model Charity Smalling; Bricklayer, 4th place Anthony Davidson;Welding, 3rd place ConnerThompson; and Automotive Service Technology, 3rd place Lane Lowe. Other students who participated from TCCTC were Landon Lucas, Aiden France, Alexis Dale, and John Powers.

“The students of TCCTC are a hardworking and aspiring group of young tradespeople. Each
instructor inspires a work ethic that is necessary to be successful in a given trade and challenges those who desire to perform in competition to apply their learned skills at industry-level standards. This competition is a good indicator of how ambitious the students of TCCTC are to succeed. Many in the Tazewell County communities and schools are eager for what awaits these students in their next round of competition and what the future holds for them in their chosen fields of work,” said Sarah Cooke, TCCTC SkillsUSA Lead Advisor.

TCCTC would like to thank county administration for allowing the use of Nuckolls Hall at the
Tazewell County Fairgrounds.The TeamWorks and Carpentry competitions were both held there. Building materials for the TeamWorks competition were sponsored by Lowe’s of Claypool Hill, Virginia, and sponsored in part by Citizens Building Supply, Randy’s Gateway Drug, Raven Supermarket in Raven, Virginia, Trupoint Bank in Claypool Hill, Virginia, and Worship Hymn Church in Cedar Bluff, Virginia.

Looking ahead, 47 Tazewell County Career and Technical students will set their sights on theState SkillsUSA competition to be held in Virginia Beach, Virginia on April 18-21, 2024.12 instructors will be accompanying their students to the state SkillsUSA competition.
