Tazewell, VA–31 Tazewell County Career and Technical Center (TCCTC) students qualified at the District 8 SkillsUSA competitions and will be attending the state SkillsUSA competitions in Virginia Beach, Virginia, this March. District competitions were held at the Tazewell County Career and Technical Center in Tazewell, Virginia, and the Smyth Career and Technology Center in Marion, Virginia. Tazewell County students and Bland County students who attend Tazewell County Career and Technical Center competed against students from Wythe, Smyth, Carroll, Galax, Grayson, and Washington Counties, as well as students attending Virginia High School located in the city of Bristol, Virginia.
Tazewell County Career and Technical Center walked away with 20 first-place winners. Upon hearing this news, Lee Salyers, CTE Director and Principal of Tazewell County Career and Technical Center, said, “ I’m extremely proud of our students and instructors. They put in a tremendous amount of work and preparation. “These students overcame unprecedented challenges this year to prepare for the district contests. They were out of school for most of the month of December due to weather, and after Christmas break, they had 3 days to get ready to compete. It shows just how talented and determined these students were to overcome struggle and win such great honors against 8 other schools across the region,” said Sarah Cooke, TCCTC SkillsUSA Lead Advisor.
Looking ahead, Tazewell County Career and Technical students will set their sights on the state SkillsUSA competition to be held in Virginia Beach, Virginia, on March 9th-11th.
